The Cake

The next step was to make the cake.

I checked my Circus Layout to see what size circle would fit within the Z scale track and decided on an 8-inch cake. I drew an 8-inch circle on a sheet of paper and cut out a template.

The template was placed onto a one-inch sheet of Woodland Scenics foam board and I traced two circles.  I cut the foam into a square around each of the circles with a Woodland Scenics foam knife.  Then I cut around each circle with a hot wire foam cutter.

One circle of foam was then glued to the other with Scenic Glue to make a 2-inch "cake."

After allowing the glue to dry over night, I took a table knife and "frosted" the cake with Woodland Scenics Foam Putty. Looks almost good enough to eat!

While the putty was still wet I pressed in several "balloons", "party hats", and a peel-and-stick fabric "Happy Birthday" sign that I picked up at WalMart.

After the "frosting" had dried I used the Hot Wire Foam Cutter to cut out a slice of cake. I also cut out a tunnel in the slice, then painted the exposed faces of the slice and cake with a brown tinted yellow acrylic paint and painted the "frosting" between the layers in with some white acrylic.

After the paint was dry I painted the "cake" surfaces with Scenic Cement and sprinkled on Yellow Grass Fine Turf to give a little cakey texture.

Tunnel portals were added to each side of the slice.
