If you plan to transfer courses from SouthArk Community College to SAU-Magnolia -
BE CAREFUL! Maybe you should consider one of Arkansas' other fine universities.
I often hear from students that when they ask someone from SAU-Magnolia about transferring a course from SouthArk they are told that the course will not transfer and that they will have to take the SAU-Magnolia equivalent. While this is sometimes true, it is often not true. Instructors at SAU-Magnolia are sometimes not aware that SouthArk courses will transfer as the equivalent university course (or at least I hope that this is the reason that they say such things.) If you are told that a course will not transfer, talk to the folks at SouthArk's Student Services Office and have them help you get the facts straight.
I was also told that a student taking SAU-Magnolia's equivalent of our Chemistry for Science Majors II was told that they "didn't like" for students to take Chem I here and then Chem II over there.
The Arkansas Department
of Higher Education has started a new program, the Arkansas Course Transfer
System, implemented Spring 2007,in which many if not most courses offered
at Arkansas colleges and universities can meet state standards and be transferable
among all Arkansas colleges and universities. SouthArk's Chemistry for Science Majors I and II (old name: College Chemistry
I and II) and The Physical
Sciences meet these
standards. Many other SouthArk courses do too. Click here
to go to the Arkansas Course Transfer System web page to check the transferability
of any course here at SouthArk to any college or university in Arkansas.
Please also note that the course which SAU-Magnolia calls "College Chemistry" is NOT THE SAME as what we have called "College Chemistry"!!! SAU-Magnolia's "College Chemistry" was formerly known as "General Chemistry" and is Chemistry for Health Science Majors according to the Arkansas Course Transfer System.
Are you really sure that you want to continue your education at SAU-Magnolia?
